OSCE Mission in Kosovo strongly condemns killings in Peje/Pec
PRISTINA 14 August 2003
PRISTINA, 14 August 2003 - The Acting Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo (OMiK) has condemned a shooting yesterday in the Peje/Pec municipality, which left two youths dead and several others seriously injured, in the strongest possible terms.
A group of young children were enjoying themselves in a river near Goradevac, to where many Kosovo Serbs have successfully returned, when an unknown person fired on the group.
"This is a black day for all the people of Kosovo," said Mr. Rolf van Uye, Acting Head of OMiK. "An act of senseless violence like this only causes personal pain and harms relations between communities."
Extending his sincerest sympathies to the families and friends of the victims, Mr. Van Uye, added, "This attack is unacceptable, not simply because of its nature, but the victims were young and representative of Kosovo's future."
The motives of the attack are still unclear and a police investigation is underway.
