OSCE Chairman praises Kyrgyz government, opposition for reaching agreement
BRUSSELS, 9 November 2006 - The OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Belgian Foreign Minister Karel De Gucht, expressed his satisfaction today over an agreement on Constitutional reform in Kyrgyzstan which was reached between the Government and the opposition.
"I am pleased that all parties concerned have reached an agreement on the new Constitution," said Minister De Gucht. "Allow me to commend the Government and the opposition forces for their constructive approach and congratulate them on the agreement which puts an end to the political crisis in the country."
"I strongly hope that this agreement will pave the way for further fruitful co-operation between all parties, and that all branches of power will now be able to concentrate on other important challenges facing the country and its people."
The OSCE Chairman also praised the authorities and security forces for handling the situation with restraint, and the population for the peaceful character of the demonstrations.
