OSCE field office supports opening of a new training centre in Osh
OSH, Kyrgyzstan, 17 July 2008 - The Kyrgyz Ministry of Emergency Situations, with support from the OSCE Centre's field office in Osh, opened a training centre for natural disaster preparedness in Osh today.
The new centre aims to provide practical training for Ministry staff and community groups to better react to, and handle the consequences of, natural disasters. The OSCE Osh Field Office financed the rehabilitation of the building and helped the Ministry to furnish and equip the centre.
"The creation of such a centre in the south is essential for us as there was no training ground here before. In the past we had to send our staff to Bishkek for such training, spending financial resources, and we could only train limited number of staff. The OSCE support in renovating this centre strengthens co-operation with the Ministry of Emergency and aids its task to protect the population," said Kyrgyz Deputy Minister Mukambet Kasymaliev.
The opening ceremony was attended by Kasymaliev and representatives from the OSCE, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, international organizations and local non-governmental organizations.
