OSCE Office helps train Azerbaijani judges and prosecutors to fight human trafficking
BAKU, 12 May 2008 - A training course for judges and public prosecutors on combating human trafficking, organized by the OSCE Office, began in Baku today.
"This two-day course was designed within the framework of an EU-funded project that supports the implementation of Azerbaijan's National Action Plan against human trafficking," said Alexis Chahtahtinsky, the Deputy Head of the OSCE Office.
"We share a common goal, a common determination and a common strategy. The OSCE Office believes that training is essential in order to enhance the professional skills of the Azerbaijani judiciary and is ready to offer further support in order to address the needs of the Judicial Legal Council."
The training course is being delivered by international and local experts. Each session consists of lectures and practical workshops. Participants will learn about best practices in the field, and discuss deficiencies in the current domestic legislation on human trafficking.
The course was organized together with the International Labour Organization and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development. The Justice Ministry supported the OSCE Office in implementing the project by offering the facilities of the Judicial Legal Council. By fitting the training within the normal activities of the Judicial Legal Council the training is also assisting the judiciary in developing new curricula and teaching material.
